10 Items to clean out from your bathroom ASAP

Creating and maintaining a serene and organized bathroom is essential in our daily routines. It’s where we’re preparing for the morning ahead or we’re unwinding in a soothing bath at the end of a busy day. It’s all too common though for clutter to accumulate making the bathroom messy. That’s why below we discuss items that should been shown the door.

1. Expired Products

Check the expiration date on your makeup, skincare and haircare products. Most of the time it is impossible to find expiration dates on these, so a good rule of thumb is that if you don’t remember how long ago you bought them, then it’s time for them to go. Expired products can potentially lead to skin irritation, acne or infections.

2. Empty Bottles

Do a quick scan of your shower space, shelves and drawers for any empty bottles. They’re just taking up space and serving no purpose. Toss them out.

3. Expired Sunscreen

Before using your face and body sunscreen (hopefully you’ve using your face sunscreen all year around!), don’t forget to check the expiration date. They last shorter time than you think and after their expiration date their effectiveness decreases.

4. Old Towels & Washcloths

Take a look at your towels and washcloths. If they look worn out or stained beyond repair, then it’s time to replace them with fresh fluffy ones. You can repurpose the old ones as cleaning towels/washcloths.

5. Sample & Travel-sized Products

We all love free samples and travel sized products from hotels, but the chances of using them are decreasing in a very rapid pace as soon as we get home. Keep only the ones that you’ll realistically use and dispose the rest.

6. Expired Medications & First-Aid Supplies

Check the expiration dates on your medications, ointments, and first-aid supplies. Dispose any expired items. Many states provide free medication disposal bags, or you can inquire at your local pharmacy about take-back programs. Proper disposal ensures the safe and responsible removal of medications, reducing the risk of misuse or environmental harm. Taking these small steps can contribute to a healthier and safer community for everyone.

7. Old Toothbrushes

It’s recommended to replace your toothbrush every three months  or sooner if the bristles are frayed.

8. Dirty Shower Liners

If you’re using plastic shower liners, after a while they get mold or dirt. The instructions recommend washing them in the washing machine but because of the plastic it’s not easy to remove everything (at least in my case). Opt for a new one or a fabric liner that is easier to wash.

9. Damaged Hair Accessories & Tools

Are there broken hair ties, worn-out brushes, damaged curling or straightening tools in your bathroom drawers? Clean out all of them; especially the damaged tools can be dangerous.

10. Items that don’t belong

Finally, look around your bathroom for any items that don't belong there. Whether it's clutter from other rooms or items that have accumulated over time, return them to their rightful place or find a new home for them elsewhere.
